Understanding why jewelry tarnishes:
Sterling silver is an alloy metal, typically made of 92.5% pure silver and other metals. Due to its composition, it tends to tarnish faster than gold.
Tarnish is simply a chemical reaction between the metal and oxygen or sulfur particles in the air. If you have a piece that looks dark or dirty, it probably means the silver has tarnished, but there are easy ways to fix it. Keep reading to learn how!
Prevention tips:
Remove your jewelry during the following activities: cleaning, swimming, and exercising. These activities expose your jewelry to harsh chemicals that accelerate corrosion and tarnishing.
Put on your jewelry last; this is also to prevent it from coming into contact with chemicals present in lotions, makeup, hairspray, etc.
Keep your jewelry away from direct sunlight and store it in a low humidity environment, ideally inside an airtight container such as Ziploc bags or special jewelry bags.
Cleaning tips:
The most recommended method for cleaning jewelry at home is with warm, soapy water. You can do this using a toothbrush and gently scrubbing the piece with warm, soapy water.
If the tarnish is more difficult to remove, do not rub too hard or use any other household items such as toothpaste; instead, email our customer service at info@madujoyeria.com to schedule a jewelry cleaning appointment.
Cleaning service:
You can bring it to the studio or mail it to have it repolished and cleaned.
It is recommended to clean your jewelry every 6 months to a year, this way you can wear your piece every day as if it were the first day you bought it.
